Dear Moto experts, I would like pull a copy of a few built-in
ringtones on my old Razr v3 for Verizon, primarily the loud and clear British-style bell ringer ("ringring ... ringring..."). The obvious ways of copying a sound to a memory card or sending a sound via text message all seem to be blocked/unavailable. Does the Moto phone tools software allow access to the built-in-from-the-factory sounds? Anyone know of any other way? Thanks in advance. |

A quick look at the software I have makes no mention of copying ringtones *from* a phone. If you don't have Phone Tools, I'd recommend purchasing the software simply for the ease of maintaining your contacts data, calendar, etc. Trying to enter text via the keypad is not something you'll want to do unless you're desperate! With Phone Tools you just connect your phone to a USB port on your computer and you can edit your contacts using a real keyboard. MUCH EASIER!!!! Make sure you get AT LEAST version 5.0. (If you get something too far "back level" it may not support your phone and you won't be able to get support (updates) for it. You might try calling Motorola Technical Support. I believe the 800 number is in the instruction manual for your phone. If, as I suspect, that ringtone is proprietary, they may be unwilling/unable to help you! Another possibility is "BitPIM". I'm not certain that I have the capitalization right but the spelling is correct. It's software for tinkering with your phone. You want to be very careful with it lest you do something you don't want and don't know how to undo! One thing I believe you can do with it is to make a BACKUP of your phone's memory. You would save the firmware, your contacts, ringtones, and everything else stored in your phone's memory to a file. Such a backup might be useful if you make a mistake and scramble something. |

It should be in the first found site. |

It's called simply "Rings" in my Razr v3m for verizon. This tone is a very loud, very clear recording of a clapper-driven bell with a significant amount of resonance/echo at high frequencies that continues after the ring stops. The cadence is two approx half-second rings followed by about 2 seconds of silence with resonance, then repeats. I call it a british ring, which is very likely wrong. It's certainly not the cadence used in the U.S. by old ma bell. |

Well I am happy to report success. The tone is available from Mark
Venture's ringtones page, among others in a collection labeled "STOCK Verizon V3C Ring Tones, Pictures, and Themes". Here's the link: http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V710_Ringers.htm |
